Arsenal must go all out for Athletic Club forward Nico Williams if they want to challenge for the Premier League title, says Emmanuel Petit.

In an interview with , the former Arsenal midfielder encouraged his old club to fight hard for the Spain international, who he believes can take them to the next level in the battle for supremacy over Manchester City.

Petit said: "Arsenal have so much ambition, a young average age and Mikel Arteta has just signed a new contract, he and staff know what they are doing in the transfer market and now they need to bring in some competition. One player that Arsenal should go all out for is Nico Williams, it would be a dream signing for Mikel Arteta. He is an amazing player and he'll be wanted by so many clubs, I hope he ends up at Arsenal."

The depth of Arsenal's attacking options has been called into question at times during the last two seasons, with the club lacking a traditional number nine capable of scoring 20 or more goals a season. The Gunners' squad includes talented forwards like Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard, but adding Nico Williams to the ranks would seriously bolster their options.

With or without Williams, Arsenal certainly have enough talent to mount a title challenge as it is. Their next obstacle in the league is a home fixture against Leicester City, which after Sunday's hard-fought draw against Manchester City should seem like a fairly simple task for Arteta's side.
