Speaking to the club’s official website, Manchester United’s new signing Odion Ighalo has waxed lyrical about Anthony Martial.
What did he say?
The Nigerian arrived on deadline day from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on a loan deal until the end of the season, and will provide some much-needed depth to United’s forward options.
And when talking about the Red Devils’ competition at the top end of the pitch, Ighalo hailed new teammate Martial as someone who can provide that something extra.

He said: “These players are great players. Greenwood is a very good player; young, very good left foot, I’ve watched some of his game. Martial is very skilful, he can do so much magic with the ball and Rashford I think is, for me, one of the best, if not the best, young players in Europe right now.
“So, for me, it is just a plus to the team, to work hard with these guys and make sure we end the season very well.”
High praise
It may have just been a few words, but Ighalo’s assessment of Martial makes for some very impressive reading. The latter has 12 goals to his name in 28 appearances across all competitions this season, but has not found the net in his last three Premier League games.
And that is where Ighalo’s arrival could potentially be of major benefit to the Frenchman. The £54m-rated ace now knows he has some competition for his spot as the side’s number nine, and that he will need to be at the top of his game even despite Marcus Rashford being out injured.

With Rashford’s absence, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may even be tempted to see how things work out with Ighalo up top and Martial out on the left. It’s an intriguing prospect that the Norwegian will surely look to experiment with at some point.
Meanwhile, Nicky Butt has hailed this Man Utd starlet who plays at 100mph.
