Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp mourned the passing of 'great friend' Diogo Jota on social media. Jota and his brother Andre Silva tragically died in a car accident shortly after midnight on the morning of July 3, 2025. The Lamborghini they were travelling in is said to have suffered a tyre blowout, leading to it careering off the road and bursting into flames.

Klopp, who managed Jota at Anfield for four seasons and won several trophies together, condoled the passing of the 28-year-old forward. The German manager called Jota a 'great friend' and showed solidarity with his wife and three children.

On Instagram, the 58-year-old wrote: "This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it! I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André. Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father! We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace – Love J."

According to , Jota and his sibling Andre were heading through the Zamora province of Spain en route to Santander in order to catch an overnight ferry to Britain. The Portugal international was due to link up with the Merseyside club for pre-season training on Monday. He had been advised against flying after undergoing lung surgery.
