Speaking as a pundit on BT Sport programme Scottish Football Extra, former Celtic hero Chris Sutton has destroyed Pedro Caixinha and his recent touchline antics that have hit the headlines.
What’s the story?
Caixinha has been handed a one match touchline ban for being sent to the stands during Sunday’s Scottish League Cup clash at Hampden against Motherwell.
The incident follows on from another altercation with the opposition in a recent derby against Celtic, when he had some choice words for Scott Brown at Ibrox.
After Sunday’s antics, BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has slaughtered the Rangers boss, questioning whether he is even in control of his own actions.
Speaking on BT Sport on Tuesday night, the former striker said of Caixinha getting a ban:
That may not be a bad thing. That’s one of the biggest issues – squaring up to Scott Brown. Is he in control of what he’s doing? I think the players see the way he acts in the technical area. It’s been embarrassing this season!
In fairness to Caixinha, his complaining on Sunday appeared to be justified after Motherwell player Ryan Bowman elbowed Fabio Cardoso in the face, breaking his jaw, but are his outbursts having a negative effect on Rangers?
Too many negative headlines
Since arriving at the club in March, Pedro Caixinha has barely been off the back pages in Scotland and it’s rarely been for anything positive. He’s fallen out with players, banned green boots from Auchenhowie, got into pre-match wars of words with the likes of Derek McInnes and Tommy Right and now most recently has had very public outbursts on the touchline.
If Rangers were winning, all this might be excusable, but under pressure and suffering from inconsistent results, it’s not a great look for the Portuguese. All of it has been unnecessary controversy and added to a general negative air around Ibrox.
If he is to truly turn things around at Ibrox, maybe it’s time to rein it in a bit and focus on picking up regular wins.
