According to The Mirror, West Ham’s star striker Marko Arnautović wants to move away from the London Stadium.
This is according to his brother and agent, Danijel, who says that the Austria international feels he should be competing amongst the best in Europe, rather than staving off relegation.
This will be worrying news for all involved with West Ham, but there is perhaps one positive that people can take from this news, and that is regarding the future of Javier Hernández. The Mexican recently came out and said that he will have to move away from West Ham in his pursuit of game time, as that was not happening behind the Austrian.
If Arnautović were to leave, it opens the door to the diminutive forward becoming the incumbent striker at West Ham. He was bought by Slaven Bilić last summer with that intention, with the 6ft 4 Austrian arriving to complement him on the wing. However, the departure of the Croatian saw David Moyes arrive, who fashioned Arnautović into a striker and left Chicharito out in the cold.
The 30-year-old Mexican had been in lethal form for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga before joining The Irons, and had also displayed his clinical qualities while with Man United. He would have been desperate to prove what he is capable of at West Ham, and must be frustrated that he has never truly been given a chance to showcase his talents.
These will be troubling times for The Hammers as they try to keep hold of their striker, but at least there are some silver linings amongst this news.
