While Chelsea’s interest is growing, they appear to be behind Manchester United in the pecking order. Reports from Argentina claim Martínez is "dreaming" of a move to Old Trafford, and United have already made formal contact. Chelsea are not alone in chasing the 32-year-old as Turkish giants Galatasaray are attempting a €27m double swoop for Martinez and teammate Lucas Digne, while Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation.

Maresca is said to view Martinez as more than just a shot-stopper — he sees him as a vocal leader who can command Chelsea’s back line. The Aston Villa goalkeeper's presence, experience, and winning mentality in goal could provide the stability Maresca craves in goal, and this has been backed by Caballero. Chelsea have also shown interest in AC Milan's Mike Maignan; however, the aforementioned qualities may make the Argentine the ideal player for the Blues.

Much will depend on Martinez’s decision this summer. If Manchester United fail to strike a deal, Chelsea may emerge as the strongest Premier League alternative. Galatasaray remain serious suitors, while Atletico could step up interest if Jan Oblak leaves. However, it is believed that Martinez wants to stay in the Premier League.
