South Australia, currently ahead by 132 runs, are in the position to dictate terms
ESPNcricinfo staff04-Apr-2021A debut innings of 60 by James Seymour could not prevent Victoria’s wobbles in pursuit of South Australia’s 333 on day two of the Sheffield Shield match at Junction Oval in Melbourne. The bottom-placed Redbacks had wriggled their way to 333 with the aid of a debut fifty of their own through the former Victorian spin bowler Sam Kerber, who would go on to take his first Shield wicket by bowling Seymour, who had got off the mark with a pulled six, just as the hosts appeared to have righted themselves after the loss of Nic Maddinson. After Travis Dean was pinned lbw by Chadd Sayers with the second ball of the innings, Victoria’s scorecard was a disappointing sequence of starts without any major scores, as the captain Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris and Maddinson all walked off having done most of the hard work. After Seymour’s exit, Daniel Worrall chimed in by perforating the defences of Will Sutherland and coaxing an edge from the bat of Scott Boland to leave SA in a strong position with two days remaining – much now rests on the shoulders of the unbeaten Sam Harper if Victoria are to minimise the first-innings gap.
